How-To: Self Tan

Happy Saturday everyone!

We have a guest blogger today, Leah! She is going to be sharing how she stays tan and glowing all year round…

I am all about self-tanning all year round. Tanning beds & tanning outside in the sun without SPF are so bad for your skin. You can still get that “vacation glow” using self tanner. I like to splurge a little on mine because a lot of the ones at the drugstore can be a little too orange. Some of my favorites are the St. Tropez & Loving Tan Bronzing mousse. I feel like a mousse is the best because it blends easily & dries down fast. You will also need an applicator mitt which you can usually find under $10.

Before applying I always recommend exfoliating your skin. You will definitely want to shave your legs prior as well. You can use any body scrub in the shower to make sure you are getting any dead skin off as your tan will last a lot longer that way. Once your completely dried off I like to apply a little lotion to any dry areas on my skin. I always do my knees, ankles, elbows, and wrists. The tanner likes to stick to dry areas and will look very dark and blotchy so the lotion will help them not absorb so much product.

When applying the self tanner I typically do a couple pumps on my mitt and then blend onto the skin, really focusing on each area. Keep blending until you don’t see any lines & then you can move on the the next area. I do one layer if I want a medium tan and 2 layers if I want it pretty dark. Also it helps if you have someone who can help you with your back. It’s very hard to reach this area and get an even tan. They also make special applicators to reach your back which is very helpful!

I usually do my self tanning at night before bed so my tan can set while I sleep. You want to wear loose clothing and try not to sweat too much as your tan will come off. You want the product to be on at least 4-8 hours before washing it off. That’s why I do it before bed then I can just wash it off in the morning & come out with an amazing tan.

My tan will usually last for a good 5 days, so if you want to keep your color I would recommend doing this weekly. Don’t forget to moisturize! Applying lotion morning & night will help prolong your tan. When your ready to re-apply just follow the same steps & especially don’t forget to exfoliate really well prior to get off any of your old color.

I think that pretty much covers everything! Hopefully you guys found this helpful & feel free to comment below any of your tips & tricks with self tanning. 🧖🏼‍♀️
